Board approves up to $10,000 to support transition of Valley Rescue Squad services to county emergency services

She said the county has hired 19 people so far to cover Green Cove and Valley coverage gaps and was continuing recruitment.
Staff proposed appropriating up to $10,000 from the board’s contingency reserves to provide a buffer for outstanding obligations and transition expenses. County staff clarified the debt calculations (the figure discussed in the packet was $10,582; staff explained the net amount after credits and recoverable assets would require up to $10,000 to provide headroom). County finance reported a contingency balance of $247,008.44; using up to $10,000 would leave a contingency balance of approximately $237,008.44. Board members discussed volunteer shortages and the operational realities that led to the transition.
A motion to approve the transition and appropriate up to $10,000 from contingency passed unanimously, 7-0. The agreement formalizes the county’s assumption of operations and moves remaining Valley Rescue Squad funds into the county budget as previously authorized by the consent agenda.
