Presenter details progress on two-story CTE wing and Freshman Academy construction

A presenter gave a walkthrough of the under-construction Career and Technical Education (CTE) wing and adjacent Freshman Academy, outlining classroom counts, lab space and near-term construction milestones.

The addition will house programs in automotive, advanced manufacturing, aerospace and construction, the presenter said, and is being built as a two-story structure. "It's 2 stories," the presenter said, and described a lower level with "6 classrooms" and collaborative space as well as an upper area with additional classrooms.

The presenter emphasized the project’s scale will become clearer when large components arrive: "On March 9, we are gonna have precast, walls, these huge concrete walls that are gonna come in and, frame all of this up," they said. The front part of the addition, the presenter added, "will have a roof and walls in the next couple of weeks," and some plumbing is already roughed in where bathrooms for the Freshman Academy will be located.

Circulation elements were highlighted for student access: the Freshman Academy entrance includes a stair to the second story so students can quickly reach other parts of the building, and administrative offices and a second-floor classroom are positioned near that entrance. The presenter also said the lab space will span to the far wall and that classrooms above will include windows into the labs to support observation and interaction.

Existing first-floor classrooms will have doorways into the new collaborative areas so teachers and students can use both the upper-level and basement collaborative spaces, the presenter said.

There were no formal motions or votes recorded during the walkthrough. The most immediate construction milestone cited was the scheduled delivery of precast walls on March 9 and completion of roof and wall assembly for the front section in the coming weeks.
