Trustee Andrew Butler urged caution in the law's first year: "I would for me, I would rather on the side of caution in this first year and then see how things play out," he said, recommending further consultation with legislators and legal counsel. Other trustees asked staff to gather examples of how other districts (including Boise) implemented similar policies.
Vice Chair Marisol Pacino moved to accept a set of first‑reading policies but to hold (table) Policy 98‑03 for more information; the motion carried. Dr. French reminded trustees that the law is in effect and the district will need to comply, but staff will return with additional details and comparisons at a future meeting.
