Princeton announces roughly $2.36 million in water and sewer grants and next steps for repairs

The mayor said Princeton received a $400,000 grant with neighboring towns through a regional Water and Sewer Authority and that engineering firm Draper Aden is handling the charter authority work for Princeton and nearby towns. The town also was awarded a state grant of $993,980 (the mayor said roughly a 2% closing fee, about $15,000, was associated) intended for waterline repairs and radio-read meters, and a $966,188 state grant for sewer projects on South Walnut and West 1st, West 2nd and West 3rd Streets.
“The town staff has worked real hard, with these different agencies trying to get as many, grants as possible,” the mayor said, praising staff efforts. Town staff indicated waterline repairs likely will not begin until next year and that radio-read meters are expected by the end of the year, subject to project scheduling and inspections. Residents asked how the town will notify neighborhoods about construction timing; staff said they will provide follow-up communications to affected residents.
The grants are intended to fund physical repairs, radio-read meter installation and sewer replacements in specified streets; project timelines and specific street-by-street schedules will be determined during design and contracting.
