Director outlines fall brochure: pooch plunge, clean-up, markets and Fall Fest dates

Connie Peterson, director of Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation, presented the department’s fall brochure and senior services newsletter at the commission’s Aug. 19 meeting and highlighted several community events.
Peterson said a private collection of South American hand-woven tapestries will be on display at Haines Recreation Center Aug. 26–Sept. 1. She invited the public to the annual pooch plunge, adoption fair and food drive on Sept. 7, noting that the city works with animal advocacy groups and the Rio Rancho animal shelter to coordinate the event.
Other events Peterson highlighted include a movies-under-the-stars screening of Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile at Cabozone Community Center on Sept. 13, a fall community clean-up on Sept. 14 coordinated with Keeper Rio Rancho Beautiful and volunteer groups, local vendor markets on Sept. 14 and Oct. 5, a food-truck fiesta on Sept. 21, and a family Fall Fest on Oct. 19 with carnival activities and a costume contest.
Peterson also summarized councilors’ district meet-and-greets scheduled in late August and early September and encouraged residents to register for volunteer events. She gave contact information for staff (including Trent Frank Chavez at City Hall) for more details.
What’s next: registration and sign-up information will be posted online and at libraries and senior centers, and staff will continue outreach for volunteer coordination.
