Rainbow Pool filter and heater replacement set to begin Sept. 18; summer season ended at several sites

Bianca Baca, division manager for aquatics, told the commission Aug. 19 that the 2024 summer swim season closed at CavaZone and Rainbow Pool and that Haines Pool will operate weekends through Aug. 31. She said splash pads will close on Labor Day.
On capital work, Baca said the city is waiting on funding for new sand filters at Rainbow Pool; demolition to remove the old filter is projected to start Sept. 18 and the project is expected to continue through November, with a new heater and other equipment included in the scope.
She described the recent slide refinishing at Rainbow as well received by the community and said normal fall programming will resume at the Rancho Aquatic Center.
What’s next: staff will proceed with the scheduled demolition and replacement work once funding is confirmed and parts are secured.
