Commissioners ratify corrections deputies contract and approve small violence-prevention grant and BHASO extension

Commissioners on Feb. 17 approved several administrative items in the consent and contracts portions of the agenda. County staff presented a $16,901 Department of Commerce formula grant that reimburses eligible training costs for officers in the sheriff's office and local police departments; the board approved acceptance of the grant for calendar year 2026. "It's not a lot of money, but everything helps," Todd said when briefing the award.
The board also approved a second amendment to the interlocal agreement with the Salish Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization (Salish BHASO), extending the period of the county’s membership in that regional behavioral-health administrative structure through Dec. 31, 2027. Staff said the BHASO’s primary responsibility is implementation of the regional crisis system.
Finally, the board ratified a collective bargaining agreement with the Clallam County Corrections Deputies Guild that had been delayed by a change in union representation and shifting peer comparisons; staff said ratification would mean implementation beginning March 1. Commissioners thanked negotiators for reaching agreement on a lengthy and difficult process and approved the contract by voice vote.
All three items were adopted during routine consent/contract actions; staff indicated implementation steps will follow according to each agreement’s terms.
