Clallam County commissioners approve boating-safety, traffic-safety and public-safety funding

The Clallam County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 10 approved a slate of routine contracts and grants aimed at public safety and emergency services.
Commissioners unanimously approved an agreement with the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission to continue a formula-based boating-safety program funded from vessel-registration fees. Commissioner (S7) moved the approval and the board voted aye.
The board also renewed a reimbursable grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to reimburse sheriff’s overtime for emphasis patrols focused on distracted driving; staff said the grant covers the period Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2026, for an amount up to $15,000. The motion to approve passed unanimously.
Separately, the commissioners approved a pass-through grant to PenComm to replace emergency-dispatch equipment. Staff described the award as a formula-driven allocation that can vary year to year; the county will receive and forward $178,289 from the State to support local 9-1-1 operations. The board approved that agreement by voice vote.
County staff said the items are part of regular intergovernmental funding streams intended to maintain public-safety programs and infrastructure. All motions were seconded and carried with aye votes from all commissioners present.
The approvals follow staff presentations that emphasized continuity of service: the boating-safety agreement preserves an existing program funded by vessel-registration fees; the traffic-safety award reimburses overtime for targeted enforcement; and the dispatch funding supports equipment replacement at the county’s regional dispatch center.
The board did not indicate any dissent or amendments; each motion was approved at the Feb. 10 meeting. The contracts take effect as described in the respective agreements and grant documents.
