Dorchester 02 honors student teams, counselor and accepts $22,548 donation from Junior Service League

The Dorchester 02 Board of Trustees on Feb. 24 heard a round of district highlights, including a $22,548.48 donation from the Junior Service League of Somerville that will be split evenly among schools in Districts 2 and 4.
"We collectively volunteer about 4,000 hours" and raised the funds through four signature fall events, Morgan Asbell, president of the Junior Service League of Somerville, told the board. She said the League’s treasurer will mail equal checks to each school in a few weeks.
Superintendent Robbins and board members also recognized student achievement at Somerville High. Dr. Michelle LeViner introduced the school’s Naval Junior ROTC orienteering team and named top placers, saying the varsity girls won the Area 7 championship and listing individual finishers including first-place Isabella Aaron and cadet commander Adalie Johnson.
Galia Mercer Brown, director of school counseling, presented Amanda Davis of Fort Dorchester Elementary School as Dorchester 02’s 2025 School Counselor of the Year. "As your school counselor of the year, I will continue to be a fierce advocate for our students," Amanda Davis said.
The recognitions were made during the board’s district highlights segment before the board moved on to regular business.
