Troy recommended using Daniels Creek and Little Sweden Road as a definable town boundary for the WUI, rather than the previous candidate of 3000 South, saying those features are easier to administer and less likely to bisect lots. He also described a county interactive map the fire district is developing to let residents enter an address and see whether their parcel sits in a WUI zone or has firework restrictions.
Council members asked about the map’s limits, whether state‑managed lands would be subject to assessments, and how enforcement would handle target shooting or incendiary devices on DWR or Forest Service lands. Troy said forest‑leased parcels have been assessed in other areas and encouraged the town to coordinate with DWR and the sheriff’s office on enforcement and signage.
The council decided not to adopt the map and code that night. Instead it passed a motion directing staff to send the WUI map and the proposed ordinance/code to the town planning commission for a formal recommendation; the items will return to council for adoption after that review.
