Two special-use petitions, including 2601 E. 15th Ave., postponed after applicants absent
Summary
The committee postponed two zoning petitions — including CPO 2025-33 for 2601 East 15th Avenue to allow light manufacturing and auto-body upfit — because petitioners were out of town; attorneys said the items will be reassigned to committee for fuller presentations and drafted conditions.

The Gary Planning & Development Committee delayed two zoning petitions after attorneys informed the panel that petitioners were not present to answer questions.
Attorney Marco Molina told the committee that the petitioners for CPO 2025-33 (2601 East 15th Avenue), which seeks to allow light manufacturing activities related to auto-body mounting, equipment upfit and repairs, were out of town. Molina described the project as a potential economic-development effort involving a joint venture with a company from Ohio that could include investments and new hires, but he said the owners were not available to provide details.
"Both petitioners were out of town, so they may not want us to move forward," Molina said, recommending the matters be returned to committee so petitioners can attend and present fuller information.
Committee members also discussed procedural timing. Attorney Williams asked whether the committee risked triggering a 90-day rule; Molina replied that the Board of Zoning Appeals action occurred May 8 and "we are fine on that." The committee agreed to reassign the two petitions to committee for the petitioners to return with fuller plans and for staff to prepare any recommended conditions.
Next steps: The petitions will be re-scheduled for committee consideration when petitioners are available; no final votes were taken.
