"In some cases, there are additional requirements," Richardson said, citing items such as letters or proof of education for certain offices; staff had verified those requirements.
Commissioner Byrd asked questions to confirm the process and noted there were no challenges filed against the certified candidates. Byrd also raised a separate issue about the Davidson County Democratic Party and how party appointments would proceed if a state supreme court decision affected council districts; commissioners said the county would not need a special election in that scenario but would follow state guidance.
A motion to approve the candidate list was made and seconded; the chair called for ayes and the motion carried by voice vote.
The commission directed staff to publish the certified list as required by law and proceed with preparation for the May primary.
