Gerardo "Jerry" Lozano sworn in as Edinburg council member

Gerardo "Jerry" Lozano took the oath of office as Edinburg City Council member for Place 4 at a swearing-in ceremony held at Edinburg City Hall.
Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr., Mayor Pro Tem Jason De Leon and other council members attended the event, which Roxanne Lerma emceed. "You're coming at a very opportune time," Garza told Lozano, saying the new council member will be immediately involved in budget decisions affecting the city’s operations.
The oath was administered by the Honorable Judge Hernando Mancilla. Speaking directly to Lozano before the oath, Mancilla offered three pieces of guidance: "You gotta listen with your heart," "always be humble," and "focus on people." Mancilla then administered the oath in which Lozano pledged to uphold the constitutions and laws of the United States and of the State of Texas.
After the oath, Lozano addressed the audience, thanking family, supporters and city staff. "I stand before you today with deep gratitude and an even deeper sense of responsibility," he said, and pledged to serve every resident "with fairness, transparency, and heart." He also thanked outgoing council member David White for his years of service.
The ceremony closed with an invitation to refreshments and photos in the lobby. Emcee Roxanne Lerma encouraged attendees to join the reception immediately following the swearing-in; officials noted that Lozano will begin participating in council business, including upcoming budget meetings.
