Gina Memmert, a member of the Catalina Foothills Unified School District Governing Board, introduced Robert Levy as the district’s Feb. 24 “Super Volunteer,” praising his steady, hands-on support at Esparrow Canyon Middle School.
“These volunteers who really truly go above and beyond to make our school district a wonderful place,” Memmert said as she described Levy’s work, including donating the school’s first air-hockey table and later purchasing a second so fundraiser dollars could be used elsewhere. “He wanted to ensure that the hard-earned fundraiser dollars could be redirected elsewhere to benefit students.”
Principal Stacy Gist, who nominated Levy, told the board that volunteers who provide structured activities during lunch increase students’ sense of belonging and safety. “They make them feel seen,” Gist said, thanking Levy for attending twice a week and for the relationships he builds with students.
Levy accepted the award with brief remarks. “My wife and I truly appreciate public school,” he said, adding that he volunteers because he wants to support students’ education and wellbeing.
The board presented Levy with a certificate and a district key chain; board members and school staff joined for photos after the presentation.
The recognition was listed on the meeting’s consent and awards portion of the agenda; no formal vote was required beyond the board’s acknowledgment.
