Board recognizes fishing team and FCCLA students for state and national advancement

The Nashville School District board recognized student achievements in two groups: a high‑school fishing team and junior high FCCLA competitors.
Students Halton Howard and Garrett Westfall (and teammates) recounted the multi‑day tournament format and said they advanced through qualifying rounds to finish among top competitors, with the team placing in eighth in the Saturday round against roughly 380 boats in the field. Speakers who addressed the board credited sponsors and family members for support.
Christie Haney, lead consumer science teacher and FCCLA advisor, introduced six junior high students who advanced to nationals after earning gold at regional and state competitions; the team returned with a national silver. Student Selena Hill described the team’s entry, the "Ruby Smoothie," which advanced through regionals and state to nationals. Haney emphasized the life skills students gained, such as public speaking and teamwork.
School leaders and the superintendent congratulated students and encouraged continued participation in activities. The board expressed pride in students representing Nashville schools at state and national events.
