Board adopts ASBA model policies; sets process for AI policy and allows nasal-spray epinephrine on campus

At the July 21 meeting the Nashville School District board approved model policies provided by the Arkansas School Boards Association (ASBA) covering topics such as student medication, artificial intelligence, website posting, multi-occupancy rooms and harassment/antisemitism language.
Superintendent (S2) described Policy 4.35 (student medication), noting it will allow nasal-spray epinephrine in addition to auto-injectable epinephrine on school campuses so staff may treat a student with nasal spray where appropriate. He also flagged Policy 4.64 on student use of artificial intelligence and told the board state law requires the district to assemble a committee of teachers and patrons to decide its AI rules; the superintendent said the district will pull together that committee in the coming weeks to draft an AI policy.
S2 said the board will mirror student-level AI policy language in administrative policy (Policy 5.10) and pointed to Policy 5.20 as an update to clarify website-posting responsibilities. He recommended reverting harassment policy language to the 2020 model and said the district will adopt model language on antisemitism required by Act 850 (as referenced in the packet).
Chair (S1) moved to approve the ASBA model policies discussed; the motion was seconded and the board approved the policies.
Next steps: superintendent will convene the teacher-and-patron AI committee and bring a drafted AI policy back to the board for consideration.
