The board approved a package of financial-education modules designed to help taxpayers and new board members understand how school budgets and tax apportionment affect property taxes. Jim said the modules break complex topics into modules (operating budget and property taxes) and will be posted on the district website before the March 10 vote to aid public understanding.
Jim moved to accept the financial articles for publication; Janine seconded and the motion passed on a voice vote. Board members praised the modules as valuable background reading that could be adapted into other media to reach a wider audience.
Separately, the districts finance officer (speaker 12) presented the January expense and encumbrance reports, noting a $213,002.65 transfer from the trustees of trust funds to the capital reserve and an attorney-fee return listed under local revenue of $666,000. The presenter said revenues and expenses are running close to expectations and credited improved Medicaid billing for revenue performance. Jim moved to accept the expense and encumbrance report; the motion passed by voice vote. The board also reviewed smaller budget transfers that are processed administratively and discussed proposed transfers requiring board votes.
The board scheduled follow-up reporting on fund-balance estimates next month as part of ongoing budget work.
