Great Brook School students present NJHS projects, report more than 1,000 service hours

Great Brook Schools newly inducted National Junior Honor Society officers described their activities, including weekly meetings, tutoring, field trips and community service projects that together will total more than 1,000 hours this year.
Students from Great Brook School and adviser Dr. Mary Anne Cullinan presented the schools new National Junior Honor Society chapter and described the groups activities and community-service work.
Dr. Cullinan explained the chapter sets a higher-than-minimum GPA threshold (a 3.67 A- average) and requires demonstrated community service and leadership. Student presenters said this years induction included 21 members (16 eighth-graders and five seventh-graders) and described regular activities: weekly working lunches for planning, tutoring and reading-fluency support for younger students, social-skills improv, a movie-night fundraiser, field trips to the Antrim Library and Antrim Village (including a Thanksgiving service and food pantry support), blanket-making for hospitalized children, and plans to clean graves with the Antrim Historical Society for Memorial Day. Students and the adviser said the group will contribute more than 1,000 community-service hours across group and individual projects this year.
The board thanked the students for the presentation and recognized the chapters emphasis on leadership and community involvement.
