The Bethel Local Board of Education approved two hires and several certified salary-schedule advancements after pulling those items from the consent agenda for separate consideration.
After the board agreed to remove item 5a from the consent list so each hire would be considered individually, the superintendent presented Jamie Campbell for a 6th-grade ELA position and the board moved to approve the hire. The clerk conducted a roll-call vote and members recorded votes in the affirmative to hire Campbell.
The board then considered Isaiah Trimble for a fourth-grade position (bachelor’s, step 2). Several board members questioned how Trimble’s coaching duties would be scheduled around classroom time; the superintendent said the position would prioritize teaching duties and principals would manage scheduling. The board approved Trimble’s hire by roll-call vote after discussion.
The superintendent also requested approval for salary-schedule advancements for three certified staff (Alex Frenzel, Paul Quincell and Adrian Young) following verification of degrees and step changes; the board approved those adjustments.
Board members asked for clearer documentation and said they rely on building principals to perform interviews and screenings when hundreds of hires are needed. No appeals or challenges to the personnel outcomes were recorded at the meeting; the superintendent agreed to improve verification procedures going forward.
The consent agenda (with the separated items handled individually) was finalized and the meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
