Treasurer reports positive August cash flow; SERS reconciliation raises benefits line

The board's treasurer reported on the district's August finances, saying revenues are up roughly 4.48% year over year and the district ended the month with about $11,000,000 on hand, the equivalent of roughly 179 days of operating cash. "So that's more cash than we've had in a long time, so that's a good thing," the treasurer said during the meeting.

The treasurer walked members through line items including increases in income and public utility receipts, an uptick in state funding and interest receipts, and higher payroll-benefit costs tied to new hires. She told the board the district made a reconciliation payment of about $116,000 to the School Employees Retirement System for fiscal year 2024, which contributed to higher benefits for the month. The report also noted roughly $2,230,000 in a restricted construction account.

Board members asked routine questions about the detailed check register and one "then and now" certificate that exceeded the treasurer's approval authority; the treasurer said the certificate (for a small, late purchase) would be submitted for board approval. The treasurer said the district is awaiting additional reconciliation details from the state's foundation payments and expects to adjust reported contracted spending once that reconciliation is complete.

The treasurer's consent agenda was moved and seconded and recorded as approved by roll call.
