The board approved consent-agenda personnel items covering classified and certified staff, supplemental contracts and student-teacher stipends.
Superintendent recommended unpaid leave for several classified employees and noted a resignation for a Bethel Middle School ELL aide; Kenneth Brown was moved from substitute bus driver to substitute bus aide because he had not completed required training in a timely manner. On certified personnel, the superintendent recommended Sarah Hufford as a fifth-grade long-term substitute and Lauren Riffle as an elementary substitute who may serve only for her cooperating teacher while student-teaching. The packet also included student-teacher stipends and supplemental contract updates; the superintendent said the list and stipend documentation were attached to the meeting materials.
During public participation, Julie Reese urged that work sessions be reinstated so complex items could be discussed publicly before votes, and she requested that agendas clearly indicate whether newly listed hires are new positions or replacements. Earlier in the meeting, the same commenter also asked the board to consider installing microphones because meeting audio and recordings are hard to hear.
The board approved the classified and certified consent agendas after discussion; members asked staff to add a column in personnel listings to indicate whether a hire fills a new position or replaces a prior employee and to provide clearer educator-summary documentation for student-teacher hires.
The chair also moved and the board approved a motion to enter executive session to consider employment and compensation matters and to discuss bargaining strategy with employees; members noted there may or may not be business after the executive session.
