Kinnelon Board honors student achievements, athletic records and approves consent and personnel items

At the June 11, 2024 Kinnelon Board of Education meeting, the district recognized hundreds of students for academic and athletic achievements before taking routine board business and personnel votes.
Student representative Sarah Garg opened the program with school-by-school updates across the district, thanking families and staff and announcing upcoming events. Elementary and middle schools were recognized for math competition results: Kiel School and Stony Brook School presented Continental Math League and Math Olympiad placements across grade levels; Stony Brook identified first-, second- and third-place winners and top‑percent placements among more than 90,000 nationwide Math Olympiad participants. Principals called students forward for certificates and group photos.
Pearl R. Miller (PRM) honored "pillars of character" awardees for trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. High-school and middle-school athletic coaches summarized spring seasons and named athletes who set school records or earned county and conference honors; coaches noted individual milestones including school-record performances and state qualifiers.
After recognitions, the board recessed briefly and then approved grouped agenda items covering finance, facilities, and security (agenda A, items 1–17) including the treasurer's and secretary's reports, an interlocal agreement with West Milford Public Schools, emergency drill reports, and a resolution to place up to $1,000,000 into a capital/maintenance reserve if funds are available at year-end. The board also approved personnel and negotiations items (a group motion covering hires, resignations, ESY summer staff, CST summer work and substitutes for 2024–25) and adopted a second-and-final reading of policy 5514 (student use of vehicles on school grounds).
"We finish strong," the superintendent (referred to as Mister Mango in the transcript) said as the board closed the public portion of its meeting.
The board announced an additional meeting on June 25 for superintendent and board self-evaluation and confirmed the August public meeting for Aug. 27.
