Council approves Beacon Square zoning amendment to advance retail frontage and signage

The Plano City Council voted to amend the city's comprehensive zoning ordinance for the Beacon Square urban mixed-use district to move additional Coit Road frontage into an earlier development phase and to authorize site-specific identification signage.
Christina Day, director of planning (speaker 15), presented the request for zoning case 2024-19 and told council the amendment would shift Block B forward in the phasing plan and add text and plan pages specifying the site's identification signage dimensions and locations. "It is not proposing to change the mix of uses or any character defining elements," Day said. She added the planning and zoning commission recommended approval by a 6-0 vote.
Council opened the public hearing, received no public speakers, and a council motion to approve the ordinance passed by voice vote. The presiding officer stated the motion passed 8-0.
