Parish approves multiple small drainage funding requests, tables several items pending follow-up

The Assumption Parish drainage committee approved several funding items for small drainage projects and set direction on several others.

Key approvals included an additional $7,000 for a 96-inch culvert replacement on project 93 1 61, a $2,072 estimate (with $1,000 allocation noted) to install two 24-inch culverts on Virginia Street, a $2,347.30 sweep of a 1,200-foot drainage canal along Rudy Burke Lehi, and an overage approval of $32,651.20 for the Gomez bond-related project. Each of those items was moved, seconded and approved as recorded on the agenda.

The committee also discussed sweeping the South Loop Canal but tabled that item pending logistical details about hauling and seasonal access. Similarly, Lehi improvements (Items 7 and 8) were tabled for follow-up. Members discussed the need for more dump trucks and operators to tackle parish-wide ditch sweeping, and staff reported three email quotes from trucking companies as part of a proposal to rent trucks for a 30-day test period.
