The Assumption Parish Police Jury approved a suite of administrative and procurement items across its committees and took formal votes on contracts, reappointments and task orders while deferring one large invoice pending a funding-source report.
Finance committee members approved an RFP award for audit services to EAG Gulf Coast LLC for 2024, with an option to renew for two consecutive years at $95,000 for the first year. The jury also authorized the president to sign a yearly cooperative agreement with the Louisiana Department of Health (CRI contract) to secure roughly $18,000 in emergency-preparedness funding for POD sites and vaccine distribution.
On personnel and appointments, the personnel committee approved ending probationary periods and retained the accountant/grants coordinator at her current pay as she continues to support grant projects. The jury reappointed Jess Wagasbach and Robert Martin to the Assumption Baker Canal Gravity Drainage District No. 2 for five-year terms.
Engineering and project approvals included authorization of task order 2 for Bell Rose Lane ($20,400) and task order 3 for the Bertrandville Canal ($14,750). GIS and planning updates were provided; staff said contractor punch lists for the road-overlay program will be formalized with assigned dollar values before any substantial-completion certification is granted.
Public-health and pest-control items included approval for one employee to attend the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association conference (estimated $1,270) and authorization for the president to sign a VDCI contract for mosquito abatement. The jury preapproved aerial spraying if landing-count thresholds are met; staff estimated the operation could cover ~26,146 acres at $1.99 per acre (about $52,000 per night) with the parish share near $13,000 per night.
A sizable engineering invoice related to the Takapal landing boat launch was discussed at length. A third-party engineer recommended remitting $106,303.58 of the original $124,004.39 invoice, but members asked staff to identify a funding source before payment; the item was tabled until the next meeting and staff was directed to report the project’s total expenditures to date.
The jury also adopted several ordinances and administrative actions, including merging small voting precincts under proposed ordinance 24-12 and levying grass-cutting charges. The 2024 tax roll was accepted after the assessor provided ward-level collection context.
The meeting closed with committee reports read into the record and routine approvals. Several items (including payment on the boat-launch invoice) were carried forward for additional information and funding clarification.
