Warren County Schools board amends agenda, honors principals and teachers of the year

The Warren County Schools board amended and approved its Oct. 22 work-session agenda to add staff recognitions, then presented awards to principals and teachers.
Board member (speaker 2) moved to amend the agenda to add recognitions for principal of the year, teacher of the year and beginning teacher of the year; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Presenter (speaker 4) announced district recognitions including Sophia McMahon as Principal of the Year. Beginning Teacher of the Year candidates were introduced (including Jekyllah Jones of Northside Elementary and Heather Sharp of Marion Boyd Elementary); Heather Sharp was named the 2024 Beginning Teacher of the Year. School-level winners for Teacher of the Year were listed and the districtTeacher of the Year was announced as Wakisha Turrentine, a CTE/business education teacher at Warren County High School.
District staff also presented a Bell Award recognizing the board for whole-board training completion. Chair (speaker 1) introduced Nathan Squire as the new assistant finance officer for the district and invited board members to welcome him.
There were no public comments at the meeting. The session concluded when board member Talley Graham (speaker 5) moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded, approved by voice vote and the meeting adjourned.
