District says two water fixtures at KDM taken out of service after NJDEP tests

The Rockaway Township business administrator reported on March 12 that the district received NJDEP test results indicating elevated lead at two specific fixtures at KDM Elementary School. The district immediately removed those fixtures from service and initiated remediation steps, and said additional testing is under way to clear the affected locations.
"These locations were taken out of service immediately, and remediation actions have already been taken," the business administrator said. She added that the two fixtures were not used for drinking or food preparation and that the issue does not appear to be widespread in the building.
The administrator noted that KDM uses well water and therefore receives more frequent monitoring than other district buildings; the district said it will continue testing and updates will be provided when results are final.
Parents and staff will be notified about any changes in the remediation timeline; the board did not announce additional closures.
