Council earmarks remaining Community Benefit Fund for economic development plan implementation

The Port Hueneme City Council on Oct. 7 approved using the remaining $30,000 of this year’s Community Benefit Fund (CBF) to support implementation of the city’s recently adopted economic development plan.
City staff explained the CBF is funded through an agreement with the Port (an annual contribution adjusted for inflation) and that the joint city–port committee had already identified about $113,000 of projects. The committee recommended earmarking the remaining balance to help implement the economic development plan but did not select a specific project at the meeting.
“It's not a specific project yet,” the city manager said, describing the $30,000 as implementation funding that staff and the port will use to identify a mutually beneficial project. Staff said they would return with specific project recommendations after meeting with the port CEO and the city’s community and economic development director.
Council approved the allocation unanimously and directed staff to bring back project-level details and prioritization options so the council can finalize which work will be funded.
The decision does not commit funds to a named project today but authorizes the final $30,000 to be used for economic development plan implementation subject to later approval of a specific project.
