City staff reviewed results of the 2024 Hueneme Beach Festival, saying a new footprint and operational changes reduced neighborhood impacts and brought the event closer to fiscal balance. Staff told council they reduced expenses, restored sponsors and avoided charging admission or parking fees while increasing nonprofit involvement.
City Manager Vega said the 2024 event reduced prior losses and that staff managed more work in-house, saving on contractor costs. The council discussed attendance estimates (staff estimated roughly 20,000 over two days), staff time accounting and community outreach for next year. Several council members urged earlier and broader community input on planning and recommended capturing staff-time costs in future budgets.
Council voted to authorize staff to plan Beachfest 2025 for Saturday and Sunday, July 12——613, 2025, under a similar structure to 2024. Staff will incorporate feedback on sponsorship amenities, attendance tracking and community surveys in next year's planning.
The vote was unanimous; staff will return with additional planning details and cost accounting in future agenda packets.
