Port Hueneme staff updated the council on Nov. 19 about implementation of the city's expanded polystyrene (EPS) / single-use plastics ordinance. Staff said the city completed an initial public-education phase and posted marketing materials informing businesses and residents about the ban and acceptable alternatives.
Although the city had not received formal complaints, staff identified a few restaurants still using prohibited EPS materials and issued 30-day notices to those businesses. Follow-up inspections are scheduled for December; staff said the next step—if businesses have not converted to compliant alternatives—would be to begin enforcement and issue citations.
Staff recommended another round of outreach that would more prominently include code-compliance contact information so businesses and residents can report violations. Council accepted the update and provided no additional direction beyond the planned follow-up inspections.
