“As the governance committee chair, I am willing to take one for the team, and I’m going to resign from the board, so that we’re back to 13 members,” Emily said, explaining the move is intended to maintain the board’s legal requirement to have an odd number of voting members and to preserve three parent representatives across campuses.
Emily said she intends to remain engaged and attend meetings as an observer while the committee continues to recruit a new parent representative. The board chair thanked Emily for the flexibility and said the governance committee will continue to vet candidates to fill the parent seat.
The board did not take an immediate formal vote related to the resignation at this meeting; Emily presented the plan as an informational update and the board accepted it as an FYI.
