Red Lake board elects officers and establishes regular meeting time at 4 p.m.

The Red Lake Public School District board elected officers and set its regular meeting schedule at its Jan. 22 meeting, moving the standing time to 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.
After nominations, the board held voice votes and members congratulated the chosen officers. The board debated procedure for nominations and confirmed officers by voice vote. During the discussion on meeting times, several members argued for later start times to make attendance easier for working parents and staff; others cautioned that board meetings are not the appropriate forum for routine building-level reporting.
"We can still bring these reports back," said a board member, proposing a rotating schedule of principals making short presentations at select meetings rather than longer summaries at every session. Several members supported using rotating principal reports and bringing targeted presentations to board meetings when detailed program updates are warranted.
The board also finalized committee rosters for areas including the Ojibwe language and culture integration committee, finance, policy, crisis management and negotiations. Board members confirmed members of each committee and voted to make assignments official.
The motion to set regular board meetings for the third Wednesday at 4 p.m. was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote; the board noted one upcoming meeting would be moved to the following Wednesday because of a scheduling conflict with MSBA training.
The board closed officer elections and moved to regular business.
