Student peer leaders showcase community-building activities at board meeting

Student peer leaders Travis and Ryan introduced themselves and led brief community-building activities at the RED LAKE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT board meeting on March 18.
"We're just trying to connect the students," Travis said as he explained the purpose of the "Would you rather" game and other simple activities designed to put names to faces and build trust among students. Ryan likewise described how games and short classroom visits help students feel more comfortable and reduce shyness.
The Superintendent and board members praised the demonstration. Board members noted the peer leaders had previously supported staff activities and that their games had produced laughter and visible engagement in the room. The Superintendent said the group would continue developing leadership skills and would lead more games on the 31st.
The presentation was brief and informal: students led short, age-appropriate activities intended to foster student connection and ease classroom transitions. Board members encouraged the peer leaders and thanked them for their time before the students left for lunch.
Next steps: the district will continue to include peer leaders in appropriate school and staff events, and the board signaled support for future demonstrations.
