Deschutes County extends limited‑duration community health specialist position through June 2027 using grant funds

The Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 25 approved an extension of a 0.8 limited‑duration community health specialist (level 2) position in Deschutes County Health Services through June 30, 2027.
Jessica Jacks, program manager, told the board the position focuses on reducing youth substance use by coordinating community collaboration through the Shared Future Coalition and that funding will come from previously secured grants: a Central Oregon Health Council (COHC) Opportunity Grant and the Oregon Health Authority's Strategic Prevention Framework Partnership for Success (SPF‑PFS) grant. Jacks said the total FY27 cost is $115,329, with 0.6 FTE supported by COHC funding and 0.2 FTE from SPF‑PFS.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for the prevention work and, after a motion, voted to approve the extension unanimously.
