Board flags damage to 1st Street pavers and urges action on downtown safety

A board member reported that heavy impact to pavers in front of the Spring Hill Suites dumpster enclosure created a 12–18-inch-deep hole on 1st Street and urged Public Works to address the urgent hazard.
Taylor said Public Works is already on site and investigating. The member asked the CRA to consider short-term repairs to prevent vehicle damage and to evaluate longer-term fixes for undermined pavers and dips.
Chair Gerard Pateau also urged the board to work with staff, city council and the police department to address what he described as a rise in downtown disorder, telling members: "we've got these kinds of thugs running around and destroying what we're doing and what we're trying to improve in the city to bring it to a different level." He encouraged future workshops and collaboration to identify mitigation strategies in addition to funding police services.
