Ayala thanked Edinburg’s first responders and operations teams, specifically naming the Edinburg Police Department, Edinburg Fire, Public Works, Solid Waste Management and Engineering for their work during and after the storm. She said improving drainage remains a city priority and urged residents to report any lingering concerns through the city’s 311 phone line or the 311 mobile app.
The council recognized the Harvest Christian Academy Lady Eagles varsity basketball team for winning their third state title and noted the team will defend that title next season. Council members also presented a proclamation naming April 19 as National Telecommunicators Week, highlighting telecommunicators’ role taking emergency calls and providing behind-the-scenes public-safety support.
The city promoted an upcoming Cool City Celebration on April 12 that will mark Earth Day, Arbor Day and National Community Development Week; the event will offer opportunities for residents to connect with department staff, plus food and giveaways.
