Commission approves mechanic-shop conditional-use permit for El Indio Highway property

The Eagle Pass Planning and Zoning Commission voted to grant a conditional-use permit allowing an auto mechanic shop at 2173 El Indio Highway.
Community Development staff reported the application was submitted by tenant Humberto Farias Jr. and that the parcel (Lot 7, Cuatro Esquinas) is roughly 7,500 square feet in a commercial area consistent with the B-1 district. Staff said seven property owners were notified; one sent a letter in favor and no letters of opposition were received. The staff recommendation was to grant the permit subject to compliance with applicable zoning sections and parking requirements.
"The community development department's recommendation is that the planning and zoning commission grant the Angel Lopez request to establish an auto mechanic shop business on property located at 2173 El Indio Highway subject to the compliance of section 21 and section 12.1 of the zoning ordinances for the city of Eagle Pass," the staff presenter told the commission.
No applicant testimony was offered at the hearing. After closing the public hearing, the commission approved the permit and recorded the motion and vote during the Aug. 14 meeting.
Staff will notify the applicant and the permit will be conditioned on meeting parking and other zoning requirements before the business may operate.
