York County approves $30,000 lodging‑tax grant for York Soccer Complex

The York County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to award a $30,000 lodging‑tax grant to the City of York to improve the York Soccer Complex, funding signage and field improvements, the board said.

Bob Sutter of the York County Visitors Bureau presented the application and said his board unanimously approved the request. "Their request is for $30,000, which my board unanimously approved at our last meeting," Sutter said. He told commissioners the money would cover renewed signage and directional signs to help visitors find the complex and some on‑field signage.

The Visitors Bureau and city officials said the project focuses first on four irrigated fields rather than the original 12‑field plan, aiming to maintain higher quality on a smaller set of fields. A city representative said the university and the school system have agreed to contribute and the project may later seek lighting or other capital work; the city expects to increase some user fees and to coordinate donations.

County officials said the award will come from the lodging‑tax fund’s improvement/promotion accounts, not from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money. Commissioners noted the county has roughly $45,000 remaining from prior grants and about $300,000 in total room‑tax receipts to allocate; the board approved the grant after a motion and roll‑call vote.

The board did not set a construction schedule at the meeting. The Visitors Bureau noted the complex could be phased over time and said the $30,000 award was intended for the near‑term signage and field accessibility work.
