Grosse Ile board approves bid awards and bid package for elementary renovations totaling millions

Staff recommended awards for 17 categories, reporting a hard construction total of $8,844,228, construction management fees of $1,557,089 and a $728,092 construction contingency — a combined recommendation of $11,129,409 to move the project forward. Separately, the board approved a related bid-package resolution presented by staff with a reported grand total of $10,401,317 covering Park Lane scope items, staffing, general conditions, insurance, construction fees and contingency.
Staff said several large categories will be rebid and that redesign work, particularly on the roof, is intended to align the project with the district’s budget and schedule. "We feel that we have a very good plan in place to remedy these issues and continue the project and bring it in within budget," a district presenter said during the discussion.
The board voted by voice to approve the bid-package resolution and the staff recommendations; the vote was recorded as a motion, support and a unanimous voice "aye." The board did not record a roll-call tally in the public record during the meeting.
Board members and the buildings-and-grounds liaison reviewed committee vetting of bidder scopes, and the board asked for time to continue questions and review related materials. Construction management and the district’s architect remained available to answer technical questions as the project moves forward. The board indicated that rebidding certain categories and design adjustments are intended to reduce cost risk before final awards are executed.
Next steps described by staff include completing any rebid processes, finalizing contract documents for the recommended categories and continuing coordination with the architect and construction manager to maintain schedule.
