Council praises inaugural Gateway to the Globe event; Branch Connection renovations and staff recognized

Parks & Recreation staff presented an event summary for the inaugural Gateway to the Globe, held March 23 in Historical Park. Staff reported approximately 2,100 attendees, 20 performance groups, 29 cultural booths, three food trucks, a budget of $35,000 with actual spending just under $34,000, and $5,200 in booth and food revenues. Staff recommended several changes for 2025 (move event date to March 29, remove the kids'stage and enhance children's programming, increase the event budget, expand food offerings and strengthen sponsorship outreach). Councilmembers praised the event as a successful first-year effort and requested that staff consider the recommendations for next year.
In public comment, Debbie Hall, a Branch Connection member, thanked voters for approving Proposition B bond funding that will finance a full renovation of the Branch Connection and praised staff (including Jackie Biles, Ashley Munoz and Jennifer Stone) for maintaining more than half of the programing while the facility is renovated and temporarily relocated.
Council indicated appreciation for staff work and asked for follow-up details as the Branch Connection renovation schedule solidifies.
