Staff reports delays in FEMA obligations for Hurricane Laura projects

Staff said FEMA currently is limiting new project obligations while federal appropriations are unsettled; as a result, the district cannot obligate new projects until Congress passes a budget or a continuing resolution effective Oct. 1. The update estimated total projected costs across Laura‑related projects at roughly $210 million and noted emergency work and department work totals are being reconciled. Staff said approximately $76 million remains at the state level awaiting reimbursement processing.
