Superintendent: sales-tax receipts up, district performance edges higher; safety and HVAC work underway

Superintendent Dr. Matt Beater gave the superintendents report on Dec. 10, highlighting improved tax collections, district academic gains, personnel recognitions and operational priorities.
Beater said November sales-tax collections for the general fund were $1,018,115, about 6.9% above the budgeted amount for the month; after five months, year-to-date collections were $2,166,573 (2.9% above budget). He also reported Head Start enrollment of about 450 children and noted the district received a Milken award letter for a Maplewood Middle School educator and other statewide recognitions.
On academics, the district score increased to 87.5 (up 1.4 points from the previous year). The superintendent noted several schools showed double-digit growth and six schools scored above a 100 index. For the first time in recent years the district had no schools graded F.
Operational items included ongoing preparation of an RFP for HVAC services (CSRS is preparing the RFP and meeting with providers) and a plan to show a public-service announcement on school safety after a reported rise in threats at two schools. Beater said the district is coordinating with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs Office and the District Attorneys Office on safety and security responses.
Beater closed by congratulating staff award winners and noting that detailed score breakdowns will be discussed at a future CNI meeting.
