The Calcasieu Parish School Board approved several consent and action items on Dec. 10, including a Head Start carryover grant application, a motion to reformat the teacher salary schedule, a three-year renewal of the Solutions employee assistance program (EAP) contract and routine bid and calendar items.
The board approved submission of a $4,700,000 Head Start carryover grant. Superintendent Dr. Matt Beater said the Head Start program currently serves about 450 children and the grant would support program operations; the motion passed on a voice vote.
Separately, the board moved to have staff reformat and simplify the teacher salary schedule so the district can compress steps and return the revised schedule for approval ahead of implementation next year. Board members agreed staff will bring a clearer schedule back for formal adoption.
The board also approved a three-year renewal of the Solutions EAP contract, which provides counseling and employee-support services, and verified bid reports related to hurricane repairs. Board and committee meeting dates for 2025 and routine committee reports were also approved by voice vote.
Most votes were recorded by voice as ‘‘aye’’ with no roll-call tallies included in the meeting transcript. Where specific motion makers were stated in the record, the transcript lists the mover and seconder for each item; outcomes in the transcript are recorded as approved.
