Spencer County board approves stipends, job changes, vehicle purchase and construction invoices

The Spencer County Board of Education approved multiple operational and facilities items during its Aug. 26 regular meeting, voting unanimously on stipend revisions, personnel job descriptions, a vehicle purchase and several construction-related payments.
Administration presented a revised stipend schedule for Spencer County High School that results in a net increase of $300; the board approved the revision by voice vote. The board also approved job-description updates to create a lead custodian and a maintenance supervisor position tied to the district’s organizational chart.
On capital-equipment, administration recommended replacing a 2008 Ford F-250 (199,441 miles) with a used 2019 Super Duty F-250 (about 14,000 miles) for $35,000; the board approved the purchase unanimously. Regarding construction and renovations, the board approved three pay applications as presented: Manning Brothers — Spencer County Elementary kitchen equipment for $165,154.43; Manning Brothers — Spencer County Middle School kitchen equipment for $226,833.48; and asbestos abatement and associated construction services for $66,244.50. Administration said the middle- and elementary-school kitchen renovations included equipment purchases and that invoices were provided for the board’s review.
The board also approved easements — a sidewalk easement with the city and a sewer-manhole easement with the county — and authorized their submission to the Kentucky Department of Education for final approval.
On staffing and funding, the board approved moving funding for one instructional assistant position at Spencer County High School from Title I to an ESS daytime waiver, as requested by building administration.
Administration reported it had received three RFPs for a construction manager (with a possible fourth expected) but recommended no action that night; the board agreed to take final action at a Sept. 10 work session after members review the proposals. Separately, the district reported partial failure in two PA-system pods at Spencer County Elementary; a splice-based short-term fix had been implemented and administration will solicit formal quotes to replace the main hub and wiring, with recommendations to return on Sept. 10.
All the actions itemized above were approved by unanimous voice vote as recorded in the meeting minutes.
What happens next: administration will return to the Sept. 10 work session with construction-manager recommendations, formal quotes for the PA system replacement, and will complete the budget incorporation steps tied to the tax-rate adoption earlier that evening.
