Mansfield park board approves $530,310 design contract for Walnut Creek Linear Trail Phase 4

The Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation on Thursday approved a professional services contract with Dunaway Associates LLC to advance detailed design work for Walnut Creek Linear Trail Phase 4.

The resolution authorizes a contract not to exceed $530,310 for landscape, architectural, environmental and engineering design services. The Chair introduced the resolution and Sarah, a staff member, moved to approve; a committee member seconded. The board voted 5–0 to adopt the resolution.

Why it matters: The contract funds the next phase of design work to extend the Walnut Creek Linear Trail west from Main Street toward the city’s western limits, including a midpoint near the dog park. Staff said the project has been divided into Phase 4A (to the dog park) and Phase 4B (to Redoubt Road) and that the team will move into detailed engineering and construction document preparation once design work is complete.

Staff comments: Matali, the project presenter, said the city completed a preliminary alignment study and will now “dive into the detailed design, construction documents, engineering, all the studies associated with it.” Matali said Phase 4A will extend to the dog park and Phase 4B will continue to the western limits at Redoubt Road.

What the vote did: The motion, made by Sarah (staff member) and seconded by a committee member, passed unanimously by a 5–0 recorded vote. The resolution includes a declaration that the meeting was open to the public as required by law and an effective date for the action.

Next steps: Staff will proceed with detailed design and engineering studies and prepare construction documents; specific timelines for bid or construction phases were not specified during the meeting.
