Board reviews construction progress, approves operations building and portable-classroom contracts

Jonathan from Meyer Construction gave progress notes on the transportation building and the Town Road utility extension tied to that campus. Brian Kelly, the district’s director of construction, reported that the middle-school (Hagerman) foundations are about 60% complete and that other projects (Midland Crossing, Shamrock Elementary) have experienced permitting delays tied to utility and agency reviews; he said the team expected final utility approval soon but was in a third round of comments with Citizens/utility reviewers.
On motions, the board approved the Operations Building bid package at $14,700,000 (presented as under budget). The board also approved purchase of portable classroom pods to add temporary capacity: two pods at Monon Trail (four classrooms) and three pods at the intermediate (six classrooms). The winning portable bid was recorded in the meeting as about $1,032,009.84; the price includes purchase, delivery and required foundations, stairs and ramps, with additional district labor and site work to be performed separately. Administration said portables will be installed in June and ready for the first day of school.
Board members emphasized that portables provide short-term flexibility while the district proceeds with building openings and redistricting over the next school years. Construction leaders said they will continue to press schedules and monitor permitting.
