The Muncie Community Schools board approved the district’s recommended 2026–27 calendar after staff told trustees the plan was informed by a community survey and cooperation with area superintendents.
Staff said 668 respondents participated in the survey and that the calendar preserves 180 student days and 185 teacher days while aligning fall, winter and spring breaks with county schools. The recommended calendar schedules the first teacher day on Monday, Aug. 10, with students starting Wednesday, Aug. 12, and sets the last student day to end before Memorial Day.
A notable change removes built-in snow days from March–May so the district can maintain the pre–Memorial Day student-end date; staff said respondents preferred ending before Memorial Day and were willing to add make-up days after Memorial Day if severe weather required it. Trustees moved, seconded and approved the calendar by voice vote with no recorded opposition in the transcript.
