Mansfield council unanimously adopts canvass of May 3 election, sets June 7 runoff for Place 5

The Mansfield City Council unanimously approved a resolution on Wednesday to canvas the returns of the May 3 general and special elections and formally called a runoff for June 7 for the council member Place 5 contest, City presenter Ms. Mayer said.

Ms. Mayer, who presented the item to the council, told members they had before them an updated resolution, the official tabulation and results from each county. "As the mayor just stated, this is a resolution to canvas the election returns for the election held on May 3," she said. She added the official tabulation "will be our official tabulation that we will post on our website after this meeting." The council then voted 6-0 to adopt the canvass resolution.

Ms. Mayer told the council the special election for council member Place 5 produced no candidate with a majority, so the top two vote-getters will proceed to a runoff. She also said Michael Evans received a majority for mayor Place 1 and that Tamara Bounds received a majority for council member Place 2; both are scheduled to be sworn in at the May 27 meeting pursuant to the city charter.

The council next considered a related resolution to call a runoff election to be held June 7, 2025, which designates polling places, establishes precincts within the city, appoints an election judge and an alternate, and sets procedures for conducting the election. After a motion and second, the council approved that resolution 6-0.

There were no citizen comments during the public-comment period. The meeting concluded after the council approved a motion to adjourn; the mayor declared the meeting adjourned at approximately 8:05 a.m.
