Mansfield proclaims Parks & Recreation Month; approves playground shade contract

Following the presentation, council approved a construction contract to Shade Structures, Inc. not to exceed $360,629.20 to install playground shade structures at four neighborhood parks. Staff explained that the city has increasingly integrated shade into new park designs and will add full shade structures to older playgrounds as part of a recurring parks improvement budget. Council discussed geographic balance for shade installations, noting fewer playgrounds on the east side of town.
Young also highlighted upcoming public events during Parks & Recreation Month and a video showcasing the department’s CAPRA accreditation and national recognition.
