Granite City CUSD 9 board adopts tentative budgets and schedules public hearings for summer

The Granite City CUSD 9 Board of Education adopted tentative budget resolutions for the regional joint district and for Granite City CUSD 9’s 2025–26 fiscal year and authorized publication of public-hearing notices in local newspapers.
Staff member (S7) told the board that Section 17-1 of the Illinois School Code requires adoption of an annual budget and recommended the board adopt a tentative budget resolution for Region 1 and publish a public-hearing notice in a local paper on July 16, 2025. The board approved the region resolution by roll call.
S7 then presented the district’s tentative budget schedule for fiscal year July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026, and recommended publication of a public-hearing notice in the Belleville News-Democrat on Aug. 13, 2025. "It establishes the fiscal year and allows the administrative district, which is the Granite City School District, to view the tentative budget and publish it in the newspaper," S7 said. The board approved the district resolution and authorized the necessary signatures.
The actions set the public process for review of the district’s proposed spending plan; the board did not adopt a final budget at the meeting and indicated the public hearing notices will provide the required opportunity for comment.
